“I purchased my Pioneer 202 a few years back. Cost me around $198. Never had a metal detector in my life. I took it for a spin in my front yard and I found many coins. I found an old toy truck in my backyard. I really didn’t mess with my pioneer 202 for almost 2 years. I started messing with it recently and it still works! Found even more money in my property. I’m going to take it to a few parks around my area. The pioneer 202 is my best friend. Its waterproof up to the control box…you can use different setting to eliminate, trash items like pop tops, cans, nails. But keep the good stuff like gold rings ..silver, coins.I read many reviews and the pioneer 202 will out perform the expensive models! The indicator is easy to read, tells you what’s in the ground before you dig it up.
If you consider to invest in this product, do it! Its pretty good exercise, great for the family or friends. Plus the good thing about a metal detector..you never know what your going to find. Most of the time..you get my point. Just have fun. I love the composite trowel they gave me, and the pouch to carry the finds. It also includes a quick start video.”
“I have the Pioneer 202 its the same thing as the Quick Draw II. What a metal detector! This metal detector keeps up with the big boys on the block. My friends with there Minlabs and White’s can’t beleave how good it works. Its a DEEP coin finding metal detector. My best advice is the more you use it, the more you learn about it, the more nice stuff you’ll find! My best coin so far is 1924 D VF-20 Penny. I hope this helps. Happy hunting.”

4-level iron discrimination tunes out small nails but detects larger iron relics and collectibles.
Depth readout indicates the depth of coin-size objects in inches.
“For the money this is an awesome detector, if it was higher priced I wouldnt have given it 5 stars. But if you want to get deep coins and relics, then you should buy a higher priced unit, but this isnt made to be the best anyways! With that outa the way we can look at the good points of this detector. I’ve found some awesome stuff with this detector, pennies and other coins, some small buttons, relics, and a really cool lock. This detector goes a good 8 inch on most coins, and also a little deeper on bigger objects. If you want the best depth go in no motion all metal, that seems to get a little bit more, but that can be the difference between finding a 24kt gold ring and not finding it. Theres really nothing I can complain about for this price, it gives depth(on a coin sized object), ID, and discrimination. If this is the highest your willing to pay for a detector, buy this unit, you wont be dissapointed.”
“I got mine off ebay for about 200 brand new. Very easy to learn with the help of the dvd or manual. This is my first detector and have to say I’m quite impressed. Everyday I’ve been out I bring stuff home. Mostly coins, this machine loves coins. I’ve also found a silver ring and a gold ring. The two oldest coins are only wheaties but I spend a lot of time in school yards or parks. The only drawback is it does have a lot of erratic beeping at times but I’ve learn to read between the lines since I’ve used it. If I happen to get around sand I don’t even bother with the disc mode. I just go all metal and that seems to take care of the erratic beeps. I plan on investing into something of higher quality later but I wanted to learn how to walk before I tried running. This really is a great starter machine.”
Bounty Hunter Land Star Metal Detector

Land Star – Street Price $300 – Beginner
Land Star – Street Price $300 – Beginner
No-Motion All Metals mode allows manual ground balancing for deep searching, or preset balance for easy pinpointing. Ground Trac uses two stages of differentiation between ground and target signals for high performance motion discrimination. Four level iron discrimination maximizes relic hunting. Digital coin depth indicator tells you how deep to dig.
“I decided to wait a few months before reviewing this detector, so I could be well accustomed to it. I’ve found it to be an excellent detector for the money. It gets good depth, and pinpoints right on. The no motion all metal mode is fantastic for pinpointing. The target id has been fairly accurate, although I’ve found that the more experience I get with the detector, the more I just listen to the tones. This seems to be common with all detectors. I’ve found plenty of silver with it and a good number of old coins, hunting primarily parks, yards and woods. Nice to have the 5 year warranty if you need it, and the coils are very reasonable. I bought the gold nugget coil for trashy areas off of ebay for $35. It’s a little gem.”
“I have been metal detecting for 17 yrs. and recently purchased the Bounty Hunter Land Star off of Ebay for $165 (with a pinpointer, carrying case, trowel & headphones). To date, I have put about 206 field hours on this detector and absolutely love it! Here’s the breakdown:
Yes, you will experience false readings (tones and item indications) like myself and several other reviewers with this detector. But this is the case with high dollar detectors as well. However, with practice, your treasure to trash ratio will iincrease.
I’ve been running my detector with the sensitivity at the 2 0′clock position in the Auto Notch Mode. I do not pay attention to the type of audible tone or the item indicator, just repeated tones. For instance, I have found several coins that will give off a medium tone and register as zinc. With a second pass over the same target, it will have a higher tone and register as a penny or dime. The commom factor is that, regardless of what tone or the indicator tells you, as long as you get some kind of tone on every pass, DIG! You won’t find coins on every target but I’ve unearthed a few civil war buttons and pieces of jewelry along with of course, some trash. The depth indicator works well and you can get about 10 hrs from two 9v batteries. Overall, this detector is well worth the money. As with any detector… just practice.”

Touch pad selection along with variable discrimination controls Five segment digital target identification and three tone audio feedback Auto-notch for automatic elimination of undesirable objects Three operating modes for flexibility in different types of hunting.
“This is the 3rd detector I’ve owned in 30 years, and for the price has been the best. Minus the bells and whistles, this model does what most other models do for hundreds less. As with any electromagnetic (EM) detection method, resolution decreases with depth and is as much as a function of the diameter of the coil as with high-end components. Some models do have more advanced electronics and are slightly better at dicrimintaing with depth, but again, for the money, this model is one of the best i’ve used and tested. for the vast majority of treasure enthusiasts, this is a great value.”
“For the value this detector is a good first. True it does not have quite the descremination of a 4 or 500 dollar detector but it in an intro model and easy to use. found many coins and relics with mine as deep as 6-10 inches with the standered 8 in coil. For the price and performance a great detector for beginners I would say this detector is a good on . if you decide you do not like the hobby your not out alot of money if you do like it you can upgrade”
Time Ranger

All features are either named on the touchpads or displayed on the screen, making it easy for you to program it the way you want. The innovative Sniff Mode can be used in specialized applications when rejection or acceptance of one particular object is desired. Ground Trac In metal detecting, it is very important that the machine is calibrated for the particular soil conditions that you are hunting. This allows the detector to discriminate the difference between the soil and a target. Bounty Hunter metal detectors come with the Ground Trac. This feature automatically balances the machine to the soil conditions. Digital circuitry Micro Chip Computer Circuit which combines with Bounty hunter’s Patented Technology. LCD display The LCD target readout will display the probable type of metal being targeted and what denomination of coins are detected. The denomination of coins are also symbols for many other types of metal that are in the same detection range. Depth readout The depth indication dial is located at the top right of the LCD panel. Each number represents inches (2 -10 inches). The depth arrow will lock on and emit simultaneously with the target identification. “I have used 5 different Units and found the Time Ranger the very best. My friend has a unit that he payed over $800 for. And I walked behind him and picked up a silver Pocket watch chain with a 1853 coin attached to it. the best part of owning the Time Ranger. Its easy to use. And it payed for its self in 7 mts.”
“I recently purchased a Bounty Hunter Time Ranger metal detector. This machine is awesome. I haven’t spent a lot of time, using the machine, but the time spent was enjoyable. It will take you time to get the hang of all the features this machine has. My best advice to you is to practice, practice, practice. This is my first metal detector. My personal opinion is that, if you are new to the game, purchase a smaller unit to start, unless you are like me and not easily discouraged. I am not sorry I purchased this particular model but some people may be overwhelmed. It has so many features that will take time to learn. The dash board is great. It tells you almost everything that is happening. The earphones are a must and these are very good. The bag is someplace to store the unit but lacks a little in protecting the unit. The internal storage compartments would be better if they were single units where items could be seperately stored. My overall opinion on the three items is AWESOME”
