“I have had an Ace 250 for just over a year now. It is the 3rd detector I have owned. For the money it is packed with features and reliability. Sure if you spend $1000 you will have a better detector, but for $200 it matches most machines in the $500-$800 range. Like all detectors it has a few quirks that must be figured out.
It doesn’t like wet sand, and gives many false signals and has a hard time pinpointing them in wet sand, just turn the sensitivity down and move slowly. In playgrounds, soccer fields, and ghost towns it is a champ. Showing great depth and accuracy. It is light and can be swung all day long with only a little fatigue to the users arm. It does well in low mineralized areas at finding gold nuggets. But, think about getting a proper prospecting machine if that is your sole purpose.
In all this is the best all purpose machine for under $500. Garrett support is excellent, and so if you feel your machine is not working give them a call, they will help out. But you should use it for several hundred hours before you say it is broken  r does not work. Many times it is user error, Detecting is a hobby that requires learning and so if you are unwilling to learn don’t buy any detector, cause you will not have fun.”

“I sold electronics (including metal detectors) for years, and most problems people had with their purchases were caused by them NEVER even bothering to look at the instructions! Trust me, you are not so smart that you don’t need to read the instructions!
I have an ACE 250, and being an experienced detectorist, I have had virtually none of the problems supposedly experienced by the purveyors of the bad reviews. If you go on the Garrett website, there is a very good computer-animated demo of how to pinpoint. If You just SLOW DOWN and realize that the dig point is in the MIDDLE of the sound band, and scan two ways as instructed, it is dead-on. I’ve never had a problem.
I think what many people want is a machine that will locate valuables, dig it up for them, and place it in their hand. Take the time to get to know your machine, what it is trying to tell you, and that it is a man-made contraption, and therefore not perfect!
The ACE 250 is a great little machine, is extremely fun to use, and first-time buyers or even experienced hunters wanting a great turn-on-and-go machine can’t go wrong. Just don’t worry about all the belly-aching from people who can’t be bothered with actually learning to use their machine. If the $200 price range is what you are limited to, then you can’t do better that the ACE 250. It’s a real GEM”

“The 1250 was given to me as a gift 3 years ago. It was my first machine. I have become addicted to this hobby and give all the credit to the 1250′s simplicity and production. There are very few adjustments to be made before your up and hunting. And it is deep. I have found coins up to 13″. It’s pinpointing is very accurate. I can’t see how you can beat this machine for the price”

“It was an ok unit that found a lot of shallow coins, but to compare it to an Explorer and claim it’s the same, is stretching the truth a bit.”

“Hi, I had my garret 2500 three months now and I was a little upset with it at first, But after fully understanding the machine (With takes some time) It’s the best, I know exactly what I’m digging.
Depth: This machine will go down to about 8 inches with Smaller than coin size, 16 Inches Coin size and 20 inches Plus for Large Metal objects. I dont like digging bigger holes than that as it takes all morning. (I did dig once down to 24 inches to find a Large aluminium bolt) I gave this hobby up as best finds are 2 – 10 Inches.
Imaging: The imaging is superb, But this takes some time to master, Basically upto 8 Inches spot on Deeper not so good, Will fluctuate when object not in centre of coil but once you have pinpointed the object it gives you a proper reading, Always a good idea to scan objects at 90 degress after found as can tell you wether its round or oblong like nails ect..
Coils: Superb range of coils, choosing the correct coil for the job is vital to what you want to find, Example Use Larger Imaging coil for deeper larger finds and smaller coils for shallower smaller finds, Use DD coils for Wet sand on beach and mineralised grounds, Use with the salt cancelation setting.
Discrimination: I always use all metal mode which is extremly sensitive when adjusted correctly in conjuction with Threshold, When target is found the discrimination indicators at the top of display will tell you the conductivity of the object also is more presice with coil centred on object, I also flick between custom discrimination and weed out unwanted objects on site.
Pinpointing: Excellent, but you need to start this slightly away from the object as will cancel signal if right above to start with.
Surface cancellation: Works great on trashy areas, Also advise smaller coils in these areas as multiple targets can make the display iratic.”

“I purchased my machine in May of 2005. I have found over 2000 coins, several rings, toys, keys etc. It takes time to learn the machine because of all the options. Pin pointing is great. I like the ability to switch modes with just touch of a couple of buttons while scanning. I switch back and forth between zero and coin modes constantly which helps in verifying trash. I have found that you should also dig A size targets because many coins are on end. My oldest finds are a few civil war bullets, and my best find to date is an 1880 five dollar gold coin. I have learned to trust what the machine is telling me. I am still learning it’s capabilities.”

“I have had a Garrett GTP 1350 for two years. I have found the pinpointing superb and the target i.d. functions are very good. It is accurate to a depth up to about 8 inches and has a very sturdy design. The tone i.d. is useful for giving you the option to reject certain signals.
I have found Roman coins and brooches which are nearly two thousand years old in a variety of soil conditions. Small English hammered silver coins are also no problem.
This is my second Garrett detector and I would definitely recommend it as the best metal detector.
The only negative thing is that the display is difficult to see in direct sunlight. But I would say that the positives definitely outway the negatives. Happy hunting.”

“I first bought the Ace 250, wich by the way is a great beginner detector, I used it for a couple months but after chasing ghost signals and false readings I decided to purchased the GTP 1350 and have been amazed at its preformance. Ive only taken it out a couple of times but within minutes Im digging coins, and very accurately. The pinpointing is great, and its easy to use. Stays silent until a target hits, none of that beeping then no target to be found anywhere. I would definately recommend  his detector to any one wanting a more advanced accurate machine.”

“I have had my Infinium for a while now and although I said that I felt it was not as good as my Sovereign on saltwater beaches, I think I am beginning to change my mind.
What I have found though is that this machine is a brain snapper in highly iron mineralised ground, and no kidding folks, this thing can find gold nuggets inside solid iron ore; Show me a VLF that can do that!
Sure the Infinium works great at the beach but there are plenty of PI detectors that do that but only a couple that will find gold in iron mineralised ground, so if it’s gold you want and your ground is highly mineralised then give the Infinium a go because you won’t get anything better for the price.”

“I think the Infinium smokes!!! I use the machine in tough black sand on the N. East coast without any issues. Where the Infinium shines is in the surf and water! The disc and iron check do work and help to really reduce junk found. This is a pro level machine and does have a learning curve. If you read the posts online you can reduce that curve alot. I also use VLFs and think they make a great pair working together as no one machine can do it all! You will dig more trash with a pulse, but out in the water targets a fewer and the good stuff is deep. The Infinium is so stable and deep detecting when adjusted correctly, that not much could touch its performance. Another trick is you can just dig the high-low signals while using the reverse disc and Iron check to just get the gold (you can cover alot of ground quick this way)! The detector is built like a tank and just works great in the water with the 8″ mono-coil! I’ll grab it in areas that have been pounded or are sanded in, as you’ll probably walk away with something good. I have all the extra coils and plan to do some relic and nugget hunting with it too. It’s a great detector to add to any serious hunters collection of water machines!”

Garret Metal Detectors – Gold

Scorpion Gold Stinger

No other gold metal detector can match the three-mode versatility offered by the Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger™ metal detector. Just a flip of a switch is all it takes to change from Non-Motion All-Metal operation to Motion Discriminate and search for coins. Flip the switch again for true TR discrimination in order to accurately identify conductive ore. The Stingers famous Groundhog (15kHz) circuitry is reputed for its extraordinary power to penetrate ground minerals in order to zero in on nuggets, placer, float and ore veins. The Gold Stingers maneuvers remarkably well over complex ground conditions and in narrow cracks and fissures when nugget and placer searching. Includes the standard 5 x 10” elliptical search coil.

“The key to using the Scorpion to find gold is proper ground balance. It has to be perfect. When the ground balance is adjusted correctly, it will weed out most hot rocks, etc and respond strongly to gold.
I think the detector is a little difficult to use. This is mostly due to really poor user manual instructions. I sent Garrett some emails and received brief responses that did not help much. If you purchase a stinger, do the bench testing and spend about 4 hours just learning how to use it properly before you actually go out hunting.
It is also difficult to change out the batteries, especially when you are in the field.
If you are interested in gold only, I would recommend being patient and saving your money for something in the $700-$800 range. If it is the most you can afford then go for it. The Scorpion can also be used for coin shooting and general treasure hunting which is a really nice feature. I believe it works really well when used for those purposes. I think Garrett needs to revise this detector. Remember, proper ground balance is the key.”

“I was misled while purchasing this detector .I am a begining prospector and I wanted a machine that would help me pinpoint areas to prospect.First of all the machine is by no means for a beginner, the instructions are very confusing, ground balance…hah..what a joke.I cant do it for nothing. So here I sit with a piece of equipment that does not do me any good.Is there such a machine that is sensitive enough to find gold but easy to use yet inexpensive.surely there must be.Dont make the same mistake I did.Talk to a dealer in person and get to know the product before purchasing it.I do not recommend on line purchase for a beginner.”
